FountainKeeper's Piano FAQ

How long have you been playing piano?

I've lived with a piano all my life, and started playing since I was a toddler. The theme from "The Legend of Zelda" was one of the first songs I ever taught myself to play.

Where did you get your lessons?

Aside from some little things I've learned from my mother and elementary school music class, I never took much lessons at all. My patience for reading notes is rather thin, so I never do. I personally prefer to take music I enjoy and learn them by ear.

Can you PLEEEEEASE put your songs into sheet music, or make a tutorial? ...With a chewwy on twop?

Earlier I would ignore these requests. It was my most frequented request, and I didn't have the means, nor had the time to make tutorials. However, now that I have a better piano, I'm planning on making them now! ...I am fresh out of cherries, though :*(

Are there any more MP3s than the ones in your MP3 page?

My earlier piano music files were highly unorganized, and have lost track of where they all went. But since I've always wanted MP3's of everything I've done, I really don't mind if you just went and ripped them. As for future MP3's, I'm planning on putting them up for sale on Loudr.

Okay, it's been like THREE YEARS since you've posted anything to YouTube. What gives?

Real life, that's what gives. School finished, and I ended up not having much time to do what I love in my spare time. That and my smaller living situations reduced me to a smaller 72 key piano with no sustain pedal. But now I have a new piano (Which isn't nearly as giant and heavy as my previous one), and am FINALLY starting to get back into my old antics! :D

What piano do you have?

The electric piano in my older YouTube videos is a 20-year-old Yamaha Clavinova CVP-75 that I do not have anymore. I now own a Yamaha DGX-660.

What kind of music do you like?

Generaly classic rock, power metal, oldies, folk and some jazz. I love video game music (especially orchestral), and TV/anime/movie soundtracks.

So what DON'T you like?
Gangsta Rap, most newer pop songs, modern country, Disney Channel kids, groups like Nickelback or Trapt, and those sodding Christmas songs. There are exceptions to the Christmas tunes, but when you hear the same 20 songs over and over again in the mall, even if covered by thousands of different people, they get rather annoying :D

Any advice for piano-ing better?
Do NOT make learning and practicing a chore. Tinker around with notes and finger placements. Play for fun. Play because you want to. Play because you love doing it. There are plenty tutorial videos out there that you can learn from. Synthesia is a good option for those like myself who don't like reading sheet music. Just find a challenging song you actually want to learn and practice it. Practice it. PRACTICE IT!!!
Say no to meth! Say yes to piano!

Do you write your own material?

I'm toying with the idea. I'm not much of a writer, but the thought has most definitely crossed my mind!

Wait, so you're Fountainkeeper AND Skaploony? THIS IS ALL VERY CONFUSING!!! o.0

Yeah, I agree with you there. Long story short: Yes, I'm both, but when it comes to piano, I'm Fountainkeeper...because that's the weird name I came up with when I was 13 that I wanted to abandon, but wound up being permanently tied to my piano channel on Youtube. :P
As for Skaploony, my name is in the title. If anything, it differentiates me from the rest of the Steve Kaplans out there.
